Imagine for a moment that you`re in the club partying it up with your friends, having the time of your life - but things go south extremely fast when drugs alter the situation, the moment shifts from fun to full on passion and uncontrollable lust - feeling of everlasting sensation, feeling sexy and attractive.
While I understand that drugs are part of the night life (party scene) culture but people are failing to understand that these drugs have a deeper and damaging affects than they appear, especially in the gay community where this type of behavior has become the norm for many people over the years, where they inject a cocktail of illicit drugs before engaging in highly risky sexual acts - drugs such as ketamine, ecstasy and crystal meth, which will steal, kill and destroy your life.
I recently spoke to many people who have taken part in these "chem-sex parties"and the drug usage, they expressed the highs of the drugs but once we explored the deeper reasons of why they take this path, things became more clear. Using drugs as a way of not dealing with their reality and the struggles they face as LGBT people - homophobia, negative self-image, psychological and emotional issues. It brought tears to my eyes because they rather put their lives on the line than deal with the situations head on but it`s understandable why they would as well, we all go through tough and painful phrases in our lives and turn to drink, smoking, physical abuse and drugs to numb it all out but life is way too short not live in your truth and risk it all for moments of pleasure that could see you losing your life completely.
- The Chemsex study was commissioned by three South London boroughs (Lambeth , Southwark and Lewisham ) and it highlighted an extremely severe threat to not only the public state of health but individually as well. Understanding the effects that Chemsex and its role in the prevalence of HIV and other sexually transmitted Diseases why are some still determined to engage in risky behavior?
- Take responsibility of your sexual health, take responsibility of your happiness, take responsibility of your life
